BAMER Women’s Support

What does BAMER mean ? – It means Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Refugee Women

The Well Women centre is proud to be developing this service in direct response to the voices of BAMER women across Wakefield. Through the successful delivery of a range of research projects, learning events and activities, we have listened to, engaged and worked with BAMER women over the last few years to understand much more about their specific needs with a focus on improving their health and wellbeing.

We understand that women from BAMER communities are more likely to remain hidden away from both voluntary and statutory services and they need culturally sensitive support, trust and understanding to develop the confidence needed to access the right support at the right time.

How we can help you…..

We are now taking our learning forward and have established a dedicated BAMER support worker role who can help you with:

  • Family issues or worries
  • Signposting to and support from other organisations
  • Accessing groups and activities
  • Accessing counselling or intensive support for more complex issues
  • Language skills, trust and safety
  • Filling in forms
  • Understanding paperwork or leaflets
